Naive question about Roon
#1
Before I ever bought Devialet products (I bought first gen, first year released), I toyed with Roon with my big audiophile system.

Now, I've just noticed Devialet is "Roon ready".

Can I benefit from this? If so, how?

All my music is streamed (mostly Deezer and Bandcamp). I don't store music on a server and don't 'own' any hi-res tracks.

Can someone enlighten me?

"Roon ready" means that it can be connected to Roon over the network, using the Roon RAAT protocol. It includes some functionalities in addition to the USB connection (but also some bugs in some cases).

I use Roon but I run a Roon Nucleus+ as a server with a lot of my own music saved on it and I have a Qobuz subscription. My view of Roon is that it is primarily an app for people running a server, not for people who don't store their own music on a server.

The reason I would not recommend Roon for you is simple. Roon does not connect with Deezer or Bandcamp, the 2 main streaming services it connects with are Tidal and Qobuz and you aren't using them plus you don't store music on your own server therefore it's useless to you. Even if you did use either Tidal or Qobuz I would not recommend Roon to you because you have to pay a subscription to use Roon, the subscription fee for Roon does not cover your subscription to the streaming service so you have to pay for that as well, and Roon offers no real advantage over the streaming service's own app.

I think Roon is a great app if you run a music server with your own music stored on it and it offers additional benefits if you use Tidal or Qobuz but based on your description of your music sources it would be of no use at all to you since it does not connect to Deezer or Bandcamp and you don't store music on a server.

My 2 cents... If you have your own music ripped and/or you use Qobuz or Tidal, there are a number of reasons to consider Roon. My top 3 (beyond handling streaming my library of music as well as Qobuz)...

-- multi-room streaming to disparate endpoints
-- DSP control of your music
-- Roon ARC to listen to your music from pretty much anywhere

But if you don't have your own library of ripped music and/or you don't like Qobuz or Tidal, then I totally have to agree with @David A
